Galactic Empire
The Galactic Empire was a vast interstellar empire that ruled over almost 25 million planets in the Milky Way galaxy. The seat of imperial authority was located on the ecumenopolis of Trantor, whose population exceeded 40 billion. The empire was ruled by a series of emperors, the last of whom was Cleon II. The fall of the empire, modelled on the fall of the Roman Empire, is the subject of many of Asimov's novels.
